Postponement/Withdrawal of Item 4 - 2026 Bond consideration

Post by Jose Chito Vela »

Colleagues,

There are over 500 speakers signed up for tomorrow’s council meeting - most speaking on Dog’s Head. Given that tomorrow's meeting has a packed agenda with many speakers, I propose staff withdraw or we postpone Item 4, the consideration of the 2026 bond, to a future meeting. I suggest the August 4 meeting. This will allow council to have a better conversation about the bond.

Thank you for this suggestion, MPT Vela.

I support the postponement or withdrawal so we can have a robust discussion on the topic.

Thank you, MPT Vela.  I also support postponing this item.

The 2026 bond is one of the most significant decisions we'll make this year.  With today's meeting already exceptionally long, I don't believe this item will receive the attention it deserves.  If we allow the time for thoughtful discussion and deliberation, I believe this Council can arrive at a more unified position.

With Council Member Fuentes returning from leave on Monday, I also believe that preserving the space for her voice and vote on this important matter is the right thing to do.  We continue to wish her and her family all the best during this time.

Thank you,

Krista
