Council committees and intergovernmental appointments

Post by Steve Adler »

Colleagues,
By ordinance, at the first Work Session of the year, we have a discussion about council committees and intergovernmental appointments. Please come to the January 25, 2022 work session with your committee appointment interests.

As a reminder, per Ordinance 20180510-019:

- Council Members will select the council committees on which they will serve (anyone can choose to serve on any committee).
- If more than five council members desire to serve on any committee, that committee will be a committee of the whole.
- Any Council Member may sit in and participate in any and all committee meetings, even if not a member of the committee.
- The terms are one year, but council may consider changes to council committee membership at any council work session.
- In consultation with the council, I am to designate a chair and vice-chair of each council committee
- After the committee selection, I am to file a list of committee membership with the city clerk.

The current Council Committees are:
- Audit and Finance Committee
- Austin Energy Utility Oversight Committee (Committee of the whole)
- Austin Water Oversight Committee
- Health and Human Services Committee
- Housing and Planning Committee
- Mobility Committee
- Public Safety Committee

The current Intergovernmental Appointments can be found here: http://assets.austintexas.gov/austincou ... 110319.pdf

If any Council Members have an interest in stepping down from a current committee or intergovernmental appointment and/or have an interest in newly joining any of these committees or getting a new intergovernmental appointment, we can start the conversation in this message board post. Feel free to comment.

Thank you for getting this conversation started, Mayor.

I would be happy to continue in leadership on the Mobility Committee and serving on Austin Water Oversight & Austin Energy Oversight. I would also like to continue serving on Housing & Planning and would be open to returning to a leadership role if one becomes available and my service in that capacity is helpful to the committee.

I look forward to discussing this further as we have a multitude of skills & experience on the dais that benefit the important work of all the committees.

evening, all! Thanks for starting the conversation here about the committee work we'll undertake for 2022, Mayor.

I'm interested in continuing to serve in the capacities that I now hold:

Council Committees
Chair, Austin Energy Oversight
Vice Chair, Audit and Finance
Member, Austin Water Oversight
Council Legislative Committee (ad hoc)

Intergovernmental Committees
Chair, Balcones Canyonlands Preserve
Secretary, Capital Metro Board of Trustees (newly elected to this position)
Member, City of Austin Employees Retirement System
Pecan Street Project

I have additional commitments to the National League of Cities (member of the Large Cities Council and of the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee) and to ICLEI [Local Governments for Sustainability], a global secretariat with sanctioned affiliation with the United Nations.

**Additionally, I'd like to ask the City Manager to have our Public Information team update the online profile pages for each Council Member and Mayor with the new assignments that each of us will hold in 2022 (and into the future) so that those listings will always reflect our current responsibilities.**

See y'all tomorrow!

I would also like to add my Intergovernmental appointments to my list:

CAMPO Transportation Policy Board
CAPCOG Clean Air Coalition

And I was previously appointed to the Texas Colorado River Floodplain Coalition, but it has since been disbanded. If it were to continue meeting in the future, I would like to remain as an appointee.

Colleagues,

Using this bulletin board post thread, our conversation at work session last week, and consultation with some, here are my suggested chair and vice-chair appointments for Council Committees http://assets.austintexas.gov/austincou ... 192843.pdf and participation in intergovernmental appointments http://assets.austintexas.gov/austincou ... 193937.pdf. I’ve tried to list committee membership, too, and hope I’ve gotten that correctly, but know that we each get to choose what committees we’re on.

We can discuss this at work session tomorrow if anyone wishes and we’ll make this part of the backup for the boards and commission item posted for that agenda.

Thanks for all the hard work you do and the countless hours you spend on all these positions
