Council Members:
I’m bringing to your attention the special called Audit and Finance Committee meeting for this Monday, July 20 starting at 9:30am. The agenda includes a review of potential amendments to the City Charter for the November ballot.

The proposed amendments currently posted for the meeting include several from City staff and the Charter Review Commission that were approved by Council in 2024 but never placed on the ballot. It also includes the certified petition from the Save Austin Now Political Action Committee, as well as one proposal from Council Member Alter.
We will discuss these and go over the schedule necessary for placing items on the ballot for this November. Here are staff’s proposed dates:
July 28: Council will hold a public hearing on any amendments that have been proposed or should be proposed.
July 30: Staff plans to bring the potential charter amendments to our council meeting for consideration. Council will vote on which amendments should go on the November ballot.
August 6: Following Council approval of placing any potential charter amendments on the ballot, staff plans to return with ballot language for final Council approval and an ordinance ordering the November charter election.
I invite all council members to attend Monday’s committee meeting particularly for this topic; if there are charter amendments that any council member would like to propose, this meeting is an opportunity to have that discussion.
