Item 28: Resolution to Strengthen & Coordinate Youth Summer Internship Programs in Austin and Travis County

Colleagues,

Tomorrow, I’ll be bringing a resolution to strengthen our City and County summer youth employment programs to better prepare our future workforce through improved coordination, expanding access to employment opportunities and increasing employer participation. This came from a recommendation from the Economic Prosperity Commission, and was developed through discussions with the City, County and AISD.

Although the County program is limited to students in Travis County, the City program is open to every school district in the Austin area and we want to make sure every student has the ability to participate and expand their career pathways. To further clarify this, I’ll be bringing a Version 2 of this resolution which makes minor changes to ensure the broad reach of the resolution and the program.
