Colleagues,
Tomorrow we will consider an item brought forward from MPT Fuentes and approved unanimously by the Public Health Committee that shows our steadfast commitment to ending homelessness in Austin. This goal can only be accomplished if our community works together to dedicate the resources necessary to fund an entire system that meets the needs of our community. To that end, I plan to offer the attached amendment that recognizes that this model is just that, a model, that will guide our efforts and need to be updated as conditions and needs change. It also ensures that as we are making funding decisions informed by this model that we are not doing so in a vacuum, but working with our partners in this effort, including Travis County, service providers, and those who have lived experience. Lastly, it calls for being smart about how we deploy our limited resources by matching clients with interventions that give them the best chance of success.
