July 24th Budget Work Session

Council:

At our Budget Work Session on July 12th, we set today as a deadline to share items we want to discuss regarding the General Fund at the Wednesday, July 24th Work Session. This allows City Staff time to prepare for our Work Session focused on the General Fund.

I would like to discuss emergency shelters with the Homeless Strategy Office, the potential to have a downtown EMS unit, and improvements at the Animal Shelter so we limit the number of times we need to close intake.

I would also like to ask questions of our Human Resources team regarding employee benefits, specifically the Medicare Advantage benefits program.

On Wednesday we will hear public communication on the budget at 3pm. I anticipate we will hear speakers after 5pm just because we will have that many speakers. Speakers who have signed up to speak but cannot make it between 3pm and 5pm, should let the Clerk know upon arrival. We will call their names again to ensure that we hear from all speakers.

Colleagues,
I’m looking forward to our budget discussion on Wednesday. With regards to the general fund, I would like to discuss:
- Parks maintenance
- Firefighter staffing, scheduling, and overtime
- PSH services
- Homelessness strategy more generally
I’m sure other questions will come up from our work session, but I wanted to give our staff the advance notice around these topics.
