Colleagues,

It was great to spend time and hear everyone’s budget proposals yesterday. Thank you all for the time and effort you’ve each put into re-imagining public safety in our city. At tomorrow’s Public Safety Committee meeting we have scheduled a good amount of time to continue the dialogue from yesterday and to dig deeper into some of the proposals and directions we hope to go.

The meeting tomorrow will begin at 10am and is scheduled until 2pm (with a break for lunch) should we need that time. The general outline for the meeting is below:

10:00 - Item 1 - Minutes
10:10 – Item 2 - 9-1-1 call analysis - Kerry O’Connor
10:45 - Item 3 - Budget briefing/proposal recap – Ed Van Eenoo
11:00 - Budget discussion
12-12:30 – Lunch break
12:30-2 - Budget discussion

The Budget discussion will be digging deeper into proposals and looking at some of the decision points before us. We will group the conversations into buckets for deeper analysis:

• cost-saving proposals (cuts)
• proposals that move certain functions from APD to another location
• proposals that civilianize currently sworn functions
• other proposals

I anticipate we will discuss cost-saving measures prior to the lunch break with other topics (including EMS) after lunch. We will have executive staff available to answer questions as we run into them. I’m excited to see what we’re going to be able to do!
