Proposed Retreat RE: City Manager Evaluation

The Mayor Pro Tem and I recommend we proceed with completing the Manager’s review as follows. (NOTE: This scenario does not have us addressing the matter in executive session this week.)

Rather than meet this week, the Council will next do a day and a half “retreat” on dates to be determined (we’ll propose shortly):

The first morning we would complete our forward looking conversation with the Manager concerning management generally, consistent with our prior discussion.

That afternoon, we would meet in open session to discuss the Council’s priorities for the City and for ourselves. This conversation would continue the following morning. Our hope would be to reach consensus on priorities for the coming year.

We would thereafter re-convene, on another day, to finalize Part 6 of the Manager’s evaluation where we will set goals and measures that would serve as the starting point for next year’s performance review.

Question: Please respond and let us know if you would prefer the day and a half “retreat” to be during the work week? Or if you’d prefer to meet on a Friday and then finish at noon on Saturday with a hard stop time?

My thanks to MPT Tovo and the Mayor for following up with this proposal. I agree we'll need the day and a half recommended; a full day Friday and half-day Saturday (hard stop at noon or 1 p.m., depending on start time) should work UNLESS our Council meeting ends after 10 p.m. the night before .... in which case I'd suggest the half-day start Friday afternoon with a full day on a Saturday.

Thanks.

Thanks to Mayor Adler and MPT Tovo for trying to find a schedule that works with our busy schedules!

I am able to attend an all day session on Friday, May 6th but unfortunately I am already completely booked for Saturday, May 7th so I would not be able to attend on Saturday.

I might suggest a change to the proposed schedule to allow us to put the entire City Manager conversation together on Friday and then looking at a future work week day to have the "Council’s priorities for the City and for ourselves" discussion.

Friday morning would be "forward looking conversation with the Manager concerning management generally".

Friday afternoon would then be "finalizing Part 6 of the Manager’s evaluation where we will set goals and measures that would serve as the starting point for next year’s performance review".
