Colleagues,

After the recent news concerning Cesar Chavez and a history of sexual abuse, we are requesting that the City Manager develop a community outreach plan with the goal of gathering input on renaming Cesar Chavez Street.

Our memo to the City Manager provides guidance on how to develop this outreach plan to ensure we include community members and all appropriate stakeholders in the process. Input should be received through various in person and virtual meetings as well as through surveys. Finally, we also are asking the City Manager to assess renaming costs to the City and residents and businesses along Cesar Chavez street with a report back date of May 26.

We stand firmly in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence. Renaming Cesar Chavez street is in alignment with our commitment to uphold the dignity of survivors.

Vanessa Fuentes, Austin City Council, District 2
