Proposed Budget Amendments

Colleagues,
We are looking forward to the opportunity to discuss the Manager’s new adjusted budget next week. We appreciate the addition of the work session on Wednesday to ensure the public has an opportunity to make their voices heard, as well as the extension of the amendment deadline.
In anticipation of our conversations, we are sharing the two following amendments as a sub-quorum:
Our first amendment aims to address the pressing needs of our EMS department. Ensuring that our community has access to paramedics during emergencies is an essential service our City provides. We propose reallocating $4.4M from various sources that were identified in the FY25-26 Service Prioritizations Report and some from our Budget Stabilization Reserves to ensure we can guarantee essential EMS services to all Austinites.

Our second amendment addresses food insecurity by allocating $500,000 to establishing food pantries at Title I schools and for home-delivered meals for older adults. We are proposing that these funds be reallocated from CM Siegel’s amendment that provided $500,000 to the Municipal Court.

As we await answers to the questions we have submitted and for a public discussion with City Staff at work session, we will be sure to share any additional proposed amendments as soon as possible.
Thank you,
MPT Fuentes
