Appointment to the Austin Firefighter Retirement Fund Board

Council Members,
Prior to passage of House Bill 2802 during the recent legislative session, the mayor was statutorily required to be a member of the Austin Firefighter Retirement Fund (AFRF) Board of Trustees.
HB 2802 now gives the mayor discretion to either serve on the board or appoint a member of the City Council.
Council Member Ryan Atler has agreed to join the AFRF Board. Consequently, I’m appointing him pursuant to HB 2802 (now codified as Article 6243e.1, Vernon’s Texas Civil Statutes).
I want to thank Council Member Alter for serving in this capacity.
Thanks,
Kirk
On behalf of Mayor Watson
