Tuesday AE Work Session: Request by Consumer Advocate and Interveners for Adequate Presentation Time

Mayor and Council Members,

Council Member Tovo (and I believe the rest of the City Council) received the below request by the Independent Consumer Advocate John Coffman, along with Lanetta Cooper, Intervener; Cyrus Reed, Lone Star Sierra Club; Paul Robbins, Intervener; and Kaiba White, Public Citizen.

Given the magnitude of the decision and the need to hear the perspective of the consumer advocate on numerous issues concerning the proposed rate structure, Council Member Tovo is supportive of this request and will seek to accommodate presentation time for the consumer advocate and the interveners.

We're posting this on here to hopefully get this sorted out on Monday, in advance of Tuesday.

Many thanks,

Bobby Levinski
Office of Council Member Kathie Tovo
District 9

-------

Mayor and Council,

As interveners in the Austin Energy rate case now before City Council, we feel that the utility's presentation on Tuesday, November 1, was not balanced by opposing information.

The time we are being given at the November 9 meeting of the Austin Energy Oversight Committee is insufficient to present a balance. We are asking for the Independent Consumer Advocate to be given 30 minutes to make his case, and the other parties to be granted 10 minutes.

The 10 minutes currently allotted to ICA is insufficient to provide Residential and Small Commercial customers an adequate and full defense.

The interveners were never consulted by Austin Energy on how much time we would need to make our case. Nor were we invited to the Tuesday worksession to provide counterpoint.

We ask for adequate time on November 9.

Sincerely,

John Coffman, Independent Consumer Advocate
Lanetta Cooper, Intervener
Cyrus Reed, Lone Star Sierra Club
Paul Robbins, Intervener
Kaiba White, Public Citizen

Apologies, that was meant to be "additional presentation time," per their request.

I’m also supportive of additional presentation time.
