Item 26 Direction
Posted: Fri Jul 23, 2021 9:12 am
Colleagues,
After years of advocacy from the St. John community and many leaders across Austin, we voted last year to initiate the RFP process for the St. John Property (old Home Depot/Chrysler sites). I am glad to see Item 26 on next week’s agenda with Staff’s recommendation for this site.
While Greystar/Austin Housing Authority’s proposal is responsive to the community’s priorities (as required by the RFP) and can ensure the timely development of this project, we know there is room to improve the community benefits and the design of the project. The proposals to the City are only an initial bid, and final community benefits and designs would be part of a Master Developer Agreement. I plan to introduce the attached direction for Staff to attempt to secure further housing and affordable housing, community retail/services opportunities, accountability measures, and community involvement among other items.

I look forward to passing this item on Thursday next week with this direction, and I hope we can move it forward as part of our consent agenda. If you can, please do post any questions or thoughts you have here, since we have such a full agenda.
