Proposition H Next Steps and Our Council Appointee Evaluation Process

Post by Max Lars »

Colleagues,

Yesterday, Austin voters approved Proposition H, which amends the City Charter so the City Council appoints and removes the City Attorney. I want to share a plan to move forward regarding this change.

The Council canvass the election at our November 17 meeting. At that same meeting, we will hold an executive session on the appointment of our City Attorney.

Since we are adding another appointment to the council evaluation, it seems like this is a good time to discuss how we evaluate our appointees. I have been working with our Human Resources Department to refine that process.

We will review this process at the December 2 Audit and Finance Committee meeting. After that discussion, I anticipate bringing a proposal to the January 2027 Council meeting so the resolution matches our current process.

I look forward to working with each of you on this, and I appreciate the voters for weighing in.

Kirk
