Austin Climate Equity Plan Implementation

Post by Alison Alter »

Dear Colleagues,

With item 99 on the September 30th agenda, city staff is bringing forward the updated Austin Climate Equity Plan. The Climate Equity Plan is the document guiding the city’s path to net-zero community-wide greenhouse gas emissions.

Over the past months, I have been working on methods and strategies to ensure that the Climate Equity Plan is implemented successfully so that we achieve our net-zero goals. To that end, I am bringing forward a resolution (linked below) for the September 30th council meeting outlining direction to the City Manager to capture next steps and accountability measures, among other items.

Thank you to my current cosponsors (Casar, Fuentes, Pool, and Tovo) for working with me and my office on this resolution. I know that fighting the climate emergency is a priority for the whole of the council, so at this time I invite any colleague interested in cosponsoring the resolution to reply to this thread for inclusion.

Thank you CM Alter - And yes, I would like to be listed as a co-sponsor for this resolution.

We have all learned how important it is to provide for implementation steps, when major plans like this are completed. Without next steps we lose time advancing key recommendations.

The Austin Climate Equity Plan is critical for our community and I thank and applaud our community members and staff who put countless hours into completing this plan.
