Item #86 02/12 Council Agenda

Post by John Michael Cortez »

Council Members,

The Mayor's office will post more information regarding Item #86 on this week's agenda (Approve a resolution authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute an agreement with The Mayor’s Better Austin Foundation Inc...) later this afternoon. The Mayor has also requested that the item be pulled for discussion at tomorrow's meeting, and we hope to have a robust discussion and address all questions and concerns. After the discussion, the Mayor intends to move to postpone action on the item to our next meeting, so that further discussion may be had. Many thanks - jmvc

Council Members,

We have received questions regarding the Draft Resolution which we would like to address. Below are several documents which we believe address the concerns we have heard.

The Mayor’s Better Austin Foundation Background document summarizes the need for the community cabinet and discusses the provisions in place to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure transparency. http://assets.austintexas.gov/austincou ... 163332.pdf

The Mayor’s Better Austin Foundation Bylaws further describe restrictions on foundation donors to avoid conflicts of interest, and provisions to ensure financial disclosure and transparency.

The following documents include biographical information for the Mayor’s Community Cabinet and the Foundation staff and trustees.

These can be discussed further at your meeting tomorrow.

An additional clarification:

We have received questions regarding the term of the proposed agreement between the City and Foundation. The Mayor proposes that the agreement be two years in duration, and that upon expiration, Council action would be required to renew the agreement.
