Extension of Occupancy limit rules adopted in 2014

Post by Steve Adler »

RE: The March 3 agenda

I would like to let you know that at our Regular Meeting on March 3rd, I intend to vote in favor of draft agenda item 6: "Approve an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 20140320-062 [2014], regarding dwelling occupancy limit, to strike PART 2 of the ordinance." Part 2 of the 2014 ordinance reads: "This ordinance will expire on March 31, 2016." The effect of a favorable vote on Item 6 will be to make the 2014 ordinance permanent. Staff is recommending that we take this action. The 2014 rules only apply to new construction after that date, and existing dwellings were grandfathered. Council could always consider more targeted policies during the Code Next process but continue a prohibition against stealth dorms in neighborhoods.
