Item 45 Letters from Pflugerville ISD leaders

Re: MMK Ventures zoning case C14-2014-0193
Council Member Pool would like two share two important letters related to the MMK zoning case on this week's agenda. Links are below. The principal of River Oaks Elementary (adjacent to the subdivision tract) and the Pflugerville Superintendent of Schools are opposed to the additional road connection to Old Cedar Lane, citing student safety in light of increased traffic crossing the student passage to and from schools. The neighborhood currently does not have sidewalks or bike lanes, yet is also heavily trafficked by cyclists and pedestrians from Walnut Creek Metro Park.

The safest proposition for connectivity that includes vehicles would be to allow the road to open once sidewalks and bike lanes are installed on Willow Wild, Old Cedar Lane, and Scofield Farms (in front of the school). The developer is offering to install a hike and bike trail on his subdivision to enhance bicycle and pedestrian access across his property.

A quick summary: This case would approve a residential subdivision development in District 7 south of Parmer Lane, off Scofield Farms/Cedar Bend Lane. The neighborhood to the east, River Oaks, and the developer, Saeed Minhas, are opposed to a road connection proposed by staff that would connect this subdivision to Old Cedar Lane, citing pedestrian and bicycle safety issues.

Here are the links to the letters from the River Oaks principal, and the Pflugerville Superintendent of Schools:
