Colleagues,

First, I would like to thank Council Member Kitchen, Council Member Tovo, Council Member Vela, and Council Member Renteria for Co-Sponsoring Item 50, the Living Wage Resolution.

I will be offering Version 2 of Item 50 for Council consideration and will post a link to the document as soon as it’s made available in the backup. In the meantime, please reference the Yellow Copy sent via email by Catie Powers at 6:06 pm.

The intention for Item 50 is to set the City on a pathway to reach a living wage of $22 per hour while focusing on retention, maintaining transparency, and making it clear that raising wages is our priority going into the budget process.

The proposed changes are:
-Specifies the development of a plan and timeline to adopt a minimum wage of $22 per hour.
-Directs the City Manager to increase the living wage as much as possible and to provide Council with information necessary in order to increase it further in the FY 2023 budget.
-Directs the City Manager to add employee recruitment and retention as a top indicator in Strategic Direction 2023.
-Directs the City Manager to consider increasing the living wage in future budgets to account for the cost of living.

Yours in community,
Vanessa
