Harper-Madison Budget Amendments 1

Post by Lauren Hartnett »

On behalf of CM Harper-Madison:

Colleagues,
Here is the first round of modifications I believe would be helpful to make in our budget. Additional amendments will be forthcoming:

NHM Rider 1
Invited Co-Sponsors: Alter, Casar, Flannigan
Resources and departments currently held under APD can better serve our community by being transitioned to other departments, programs, and initiatives within our City. I remain firm in my commitment to make significant changes in how we address public safety in our city. This rider would not delay important work, but instead set a deadline for continued, longer-term transformation:

Harper-Madison Budget Amendments 2

Post by Lauren Hartnett »

On behalf of CM Harper-Madison:

Colleagues,

On the heels of our historic acknowledgement that racism is indeed a public health crisis, and our direction to the city manager to finally address it as such, we have a unique opportunity to truly and finally resolve the historic and continuous inequities in Austin. In order for us to truly make long-lasting impacts, we must use any freed-up money in a way that prioritizes the needs and experiences of those whom the police department has historically oppressed. It is in this vein that the following be supported by the reallocation of funds made available:

NHM Amendment 4
Allocate an additional $3.9 Million to Austin Public Health
Amendment form: http://assets.austintexas.gov/austincou ... 43700.xlsx

NHM Amendment 5
Allocating $100k to contract a solutions architect to focus on equity in policing technology
Amendment form: http://assets.austintexas.gov/austincou ... 43741.xlsx

Additionally, my office is putting the final touches on the following, last batch of amendments I intend to post by Monday:

.Allocation of $300K to the Equity Office to address recidivism initiatives
.Increase golf courses charge fees to close the golf enterprise fund deficit and free up an additional $1Million in PARD's budget
.Additional funding for workforce development
.A budget rider with recommendations for an improved budget process

Kind regards,
Natasha
