From Council Member Houston:

There was concern expressed about 'partnering with the University of Texas to study the impacts of students on the housing market'. Blackland Neighborhood Association begin having conversations with the University during their East Campus Planning process in 2009, about student housing vs an athletic facility on UT property near Leona Street.

The University has decided to construct multi-family units on their property situated north of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., west of Leona Street to house students of the medical school, graduate students or general education students. UT's decision. These units will be the first student housing built by the University since 2009.

This study will provide an avenue to continue to have ongoing discussions about student housing and property that could be used to develop housing for students and faculty.
