Revised Schedule for Policy Workshops

Post by Vanessa Sarria »

The first policy workshop (previously referred to as "deep dives") took place today, and we learned from it. Below are some proposed changes to ensure that the Council has time to process the abundance of information and dialogue. Recommendations are:
- Limit policy workshops to 2 topics per day (versus 3) but collapse some to ensure all are addressed
- Have a lunch break between topics #1 and #2 (see suggested times below)
- Add March 6th date that was reserved for the retreat and consider not convening on Saturday, March 7th
- Limit number of panelists to no more than 5 and ensure they have more space at their table
- Ensure that we hear "varying perspectives or voices" on panels

Below is the REVISED schedule that takes into account proposed changes:
Thursday, Feb. 5 (COMPLETED)

Dear Colleagues:

I’m formally requesting that Mr. Jim Skaggs, retired NASA engineer and former Tracor CEO, Director of Coalition On Sustainable Transportation (www.COSTaustin.org), be included on the discussion panel for the Monday Feb 9th “Transportation and Mobility” forum, as an expert voice, NOT an “other voice”.

Mr. Skaggs has tremendous depth of policy understanding on transportation and his expert views on passenger rail have now been affirmed by voters in two very high profile electoral campaigns.

On behalf of suburban constituents, I urge that he be featured on the main panel.

Regards,
Don

Re: Parks and Open Space Forum

Post by Shannon Halley »

Regarding the Parks and Open Space policy forum, we have worked closely with Mike Personett and Matt Hollon at WPD, and Willie Conrad from AWU BCCP, who are amazing resources on the topic of open space and green infrastructure. Matt has recently launched Phase 2 of the Watershed Protection Ordinance revision, now renamed the Green Infrastructure Working Group.

Heather Way would be a great suggestion for presenting the perspectives of the Urban Parks Working Group. If anyone is interested in a copy if this report it can be found at the following link:
