Resolution to Address Homelessness in Austin

Post by Ann Kitchen »

Colleagues

I'd like to bring to your attention the resolution posted for our January 31st agenda that initiates an important step in our efforts to address homelessness in Austin as quickly as possible.

As you may know, our population of people experiencing homelessness who are unsheltered increased by over 20% according to the Point in Time Count. This exacerbates public safety and public health concerns and taxes our city’s resources in both areas. In addition, experts in the field identify shelter as one key component in any response to homelessness, among the other actions we need to take.

This resolution addresses piloting immediate shelter and support services for those experiencing homelessness with the intent of providing a pathway to permanent housing.

Thank you to our sponsors Mayor Adler, CM Pool, and CM Casar for helping our office in collaboration with agencies in our community serving individuals experiencing homelessness to develop this resolution.

You can read the text of the resolution here:

Please let us know if anyone would like to join us in co-sponsoring this resolution.

Best Regards
