McKalla Place Amendments

Colleagues,
Last June, Council Members Alter, Houston, Troxclair, and I co-authored an Austin American-Statesman opinion piece on our approach to the McKalla Place conversation (here: https://tinyurl.com/McKallaOpEd). In that piece, we discussed the principles which would guide our consideration of any proposed agreement (here: https://tinyurl.com/McKallaPrinciples).
Now that a new version of this proposal has been provided to the Council for consideration, we have evaluated this proposal through the lens of the principles we outlined back in June. While some progress was made, we still have a number of outstanding concerns. We have discussed these concerns – and put forward our vision for ways to address them – in the following document: https://tinyurl.com/McKallaPackage.
We believe that each of our proposed changes would make this a stronger deal for the City and look forward to discussing them this Thursday.
Additionally, my office is working on providing back-up resources to help inform our discussions on this topic, including cost estimates, benefit analyses, deal comparisons, and opportunity costs (such as mixed-use). I anticipate posting these materials soon – please check back for updates.
