Amendment to Item 57
Posted: Wed Jun 13, 2018 6:05 pm
Colleagues, please find my motion sheet for Item 57 here: http://assets.austintexas.gov/austincou ... 180327.pdf
My understanding is that staff will be incorporating some of these changes in the morning. Below is a description of what each part contains:
- Part 1 – Removes the word “servants” from definitions
- Part 2 – Clarifies that only taxicabs may use taxi zones
- Part 9 – Removes unnecessary vehicle inspection standards that aren’t safety related
- Section 132 – Removes driver requirements that can just be between a company and the driver
- Section 408-410 – Clean-up amendments
- Section 445 – Removes driver requirements that can just be between a company and the driver
- Section 489 – Allows any vehicle with at least three doors and front and rear seats to be a taxicab (includes sedans, station wagons, sports utility vehicles, hatchbacks, trucks, vans, or minivans)
Also, I have heard concerns from both the franchises and taxi drivers about fares. In the interest of time, I suggest we only take this item up on first reading and address fares on second and third reading on June 28.
Sincerely,
Greg
